Society has ingrained in our brains that we need to look a certain way to appeal to others and be accepted and that's something that we shouldn't conform to. Everyone has a different definition of what's beautiful to them in their eyes, and that's okay. However, what's not okay is enforcing your interpretation of beautiful onto others and making them feel inferior because they don't fall into those standards. Human beings should empower one in another and not thrive on other's insecurities *insert Damien singing "You Are Beautiful" at the winter talent show here*.
Learning how to be comfortable with yourself is not by any means easy, but we should help each other to aspire to be. I myself cannot say that I am 100% comfortable and confident in my skin, but I've come a long way from where I was. The important thing to constantly remind yourself is that no human being on this green Earth is perfect. We all have something that we're unhappy with amongst ourselves and that's totally normal (it really is). It may take months or years to be 100% with yourself, but no matter how long it takes, the important thing is getting there. BABY STEPS, PEOPLE, BABY STEPS.
Here are some key things to do/remember:
- It's okay to not look like Beyonce (Beyonce doesn't even look like Beyonce)
- Insecurities are normal (I swear)
- Support others and stick together (solidarity rules!)
- Don't let negativity bring you down (haters gonn' hate)
- Sing "I woke up like this" every morning and EMBRACE it
XOXO,
Tanya
