Review: Simple Cleansing Micellar Water

To Buy Or Not To Buy

This product has been buzzing around the beauty community and one of my favorite beauty bloggers/vloggers talked about it, so of course I went out and purchased it for myself to see if it was as amazing as she talked about in her video (the amount of trust I put into these people that I've never met is insane, I know). This said product is... the Simple Cleansing Micellar Water.

Product Background

What is it and what does it do?

This product is a type of cleanser that is made with triple purified water, a blend of multi-vitamins and gentle cleansers. It's supposed to remove makeup dirt and impurities while cleansing the skin and leaving it clean and hydrated. Simple enough, right? See what I did there? You can basically find this anywhere that sells drugstore products (CVS Pharmacy, Target, Walmart, etc.) and it retails for $6.99 USD.

What do I think?

I first tried Simple a couple of years ago and was not impressed, to say the least. A little info on my skin type: I have dry skin that isn't really easily irritated and as far as blemishes go, it's relatively clear (except right now because I have a planet staying on my forehead, heeeyyyy). The product I first tried burned and stung my skin like a mother******. So I was a little hesitant about putting this micellar water on my face because I was afraid it was going to melt my face off like the Wicked Witch of the West. I am very pleased to say that that did not happen.

So the way I use this product is the way that it is recommended on the instructions. I poured some onto a cotton pad and started with my peepers. Now, I will throw this out there, if you are not careful and you accidentally (yes, I say accidentally because this indeed happened to me) put the soaked cotton pad directly on your eyeball, it will literally make you cry because it stings so bad, so be cautious. Aside from that, it removes my eye makeup really well. It takes me two cotton pads soaked with the cleanser to remove the makeup from my whole face, which I think is pretty damn good.

Side note: I know not everyone has my skin type, so for those of you with oily skin, my sister also gave it a whirl and she has the exact opposite skin type that I do--very oily, sensitive, acne prone skin. I asked her what she thought about it and here are her key points: it didn't make her break out and it didn't make her produce more oil, but it didn't dry her skin out either. So she will actually be purchasing her own bottle and stop stealing mine.

After you use it, it takes about less than a minute for your face to dry (no rinsing is required after using it). It claims that it's supposed to leave your skin feeling hydrated and I don't exactly agree with that. Now, it doesn't strip your skin and make it feel like leather like other skin care products I've tried, but I do have to follow up with moisturizer or else my skin doesn't feel completely comfortable. It also does make your face a little tacky, but that doesn't necessarily bother me. When I'm all done waiting for my face to not be so tacky, I follow up with moisturizer, and voila! Fini. I have a clean moisturized face and I go to bed.

So let's recap...

Pros:

  • affordable
  • gentle
  • removes all traces of makeup
  • doesn't strip skin
  • no residue
  • good for most skin types
  • simple to use ;)

Cons:

  • burns your eyes like a mofo if not careful
  • skin tackiness after use (if that bothers you)
  • not too hydrating for us dry skin gals

The Verdict:

Would I recommend giving this cleanser a try? Definitely. If you do decide to try it out, let me know what you think.
